Pocket: Mobile Photography as Democratic Archive (2024–ongoing)

Pocket Collective Instagram
Pocket Collective is a collaborative archival project that I co-founded with Nastaran Fotouhi, centered around mobil photography. The project addresses the way mobile devices have democratized the production of images, offering a new lens through which everyday experiences can be documented. We focus on the images taken by ordinary individuals, not just professional photographers, with a particular focus on Iran. Through Pocket Collective, we aim to challenge the dominant narratives in mainstream media, which often present a narrow and politicized image of Iran. The project gathers and curates mobile photographs to create an alternative archive of daily life—one that is grounded in the lived experiences of ordinary people, offering a counter-narrative to the external, curated portrayals of Iranian society.
